When I was 10 years old, my late father gave me a Christmas gift: a small, inexpensive point-and-shoot purple camera with a flip-up plastic viewfinder that was basically useless. But that gift changed my life. I discovered my passion: taking photographs. My father was a photographer, and I fell in love with the idea of capturing a moment in time, forever frozen. I learned photography during the era of film—how to select film, process it by choosing the developer, mix the chemistry, pre-wash, add the stop bath and fixer, etc. I loved knowing that by pushing a button, I could halt eternity.
Hello, my name is Gabriel Lujan, or Gabo for short. I am a freelance photographer specializing in Catholic faith life. My purpose in photography is to showcase the beauty of the Catholic faith, a mission that my friend Jeffrey Bruno aptly describes as “Evangelization through imagery.”
I currently specialize in photographing sacramental weddings, baptisms, confirmations, first holy communions, and other liturgically centered ceremonies. I photograph with the help of my wife, Sintia.
Experience:
I have worked closely with the Diocese of Austin as one of the official photographers for the current Ordinary, Bishop Joe Vasquez. I was one of the lead photographers for the 75th Diocesan anniversary and have photographed numerous presbyteral and diaconate ordinations. My photographs have been published in Catholic Spirit Magazine.
I photographed Governor Greg Abbott during the pro-life rally in Austin, Texas.
I photographed the University of Notre Dame ordination to the presbyterate, working closely with the Vocations offices for the Congregation of Holy Cross in South Bend, Indiana.
My goal is to reveal the beauty of the Church through the lens. One click at a time!
