Beauty will save the world.

~ Fryodor Dostoevsky

When I was 10 years old, my late father gave me a Christmas gift: a simple purple point-and-shoot camera with a flip-up plastic viewfinder that barely worked. That gift changed my life. My father was a photographer, and through that little camera I discovered the power of capturing moments in time.

I learned photography in the era of film—selecting stock, mixing chemistry, and developing images by hand. From the beginning, I was drawn to the craft and discipline behind every photograph.

Over time, that early love of photography naturally found its home in the life of the Church.

Hello, my name is Gabriel Lujan, or Gabo for short. I am a freelance photographer specializing in Catholic faith life. My purpose in photography is to showcase the beauty of the Catholic faith, a mission that my friend Jeffrey Bruno aptly describes as “Evangelization through imagery.”

As a practicing Catholic deeply involved in parish life, I am a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary. I have also served in teen youth ministry for five years and am a founding member of my parish men’s group. This formation informs my reverent and discreet approach to photographing the sacred liturgy.

I currently specialize in photographing sacramental weddings, baptisms, confirmations, First Holy Communions, and other liturgically centered ceremonies. I photograph alongside my wife, Sintia, working carefully within the rhythm and prayer of the Mass.

Experience

  • I have worked closely with the Diocese of Austin as one of its official photographers, serving during the tenure of Bishop Joe Vásquez, now Archbishop of Galveston-Houston; during the diocesan administration of Vicar General James Misko, now Bishop of Tucson; and now under Bishop Danny Garcia. I was one of the lead photographers for the 75th Diocesan Anniversary and have photographed numerous presbyteral and diaconate ordinations. My photographs have been published in Catholic Spirit Magazine.

  • I have photographed numerous Catholic weddings and am well-versed in the structure and sacred character of the Mass, working discreetly and respectfully so as never to disrupt the liturgy.

  • I photographed Governor Greg Abbott during the pro-life rally in Austin, Texas.

  • I photographed the University of Notre Dame ordination to the presbyterate, working closely with the Vocations Offices for the Congregation of Holy Cross in South Bend, Indiana.

My goal is to reveal the beauty of the Church through the lens — one click at a time.
